Is buying bullion bars a good idea

I own a flat in the centre of a large city. I dont live in this flat; I used to when I was s student, but now I live with my girlfriend in her house, and I have been thinking of letting the flat to a group of students or maybe a family with children. But some doubts have also been nagging me. The prices if flats and houses are going down. Maybe its a good idea to sell the flat and invest the money in something else, lets say gold bullion... I know its risky, Id have to find a good source from which I could buy good quality bullion, but Im closer and closer to making this decision. Im not going to move back into that flat, and in ten years time, it could be worth nothing. Now Ill probably be able to sell it for a reasonable amount of money. My girlfriend is a bank clerk and she told me she could ask her colleagues if they could reccommend me anybody who could sell me some gold bullion bars. After that, I could keep the gold in a bank vault just to be absolutely sure its safe and to be able to sleep at night! Im not going to keep bullion bars under my bed. In a couple of years, I could sell the gold and buy cars for me and my girlfriend, or if we have children, we could pay for their education. Now Im going to check the prices of flats. If I find a buyer, I think Ill soon make the final decision.
